Saint Cornelius StatuesA few Saint Cornelius statues are still available at the church office. There are two sizes left: 9-inch statues cost $65.00 with $5.25 postage/handling and $2.05 insurance (optional) for each. The cost of 22-inch statues are $450.00 (please call the church office for shipping costs.) Both are carved from olive wood by Shibli Abu-Farha from Bethlehem. If you would like one (or more) shipped to you, please call the church office. Make any checks for statues payable to St. Cornelius Church. The following information was written by Shibli to provide you with some background on his craft: “I am very proud to introduce to you the olive art. This collection comes to you directly from Bethlehem and contains the best religious figures from the Holy Land. The tradition of olive wood carving in the Holy Land has been perfected by centuries of local master carvers. My designs are brought to you by workmanship of over 85 families. The carving wood comes from the olive trees that are over 700 years old, which have a unique beauty and quality that is not found in other wood. The olive tree is chosen for more than its appearance. It has a history of religious significance with many references in the Bible. Proverbs refer to the olive and its reputed power as ‘tree of life to them that grasp it, and to them that would uphold it, everyone is rendered happy’. Also, olive woods were used to make the cross of Jesus Christ. God promised afterward that the olive trees would be a symbol of peace and beauty for the world. The Abu-Farha Family is one of Bethlehem’s oldest Christian families and we are proud to continue the olive wood carving tradition.” St. Cornelius Cookbook Sales Yum, yum… “tried and true” recipes from members of our parish. Cookbooks can be purchased at the church office or by mail. Each book is $10 and, if ordering by mail, please include an additional $4 for shipping/handling. If ordering more than one book, call church office for shipping costs. Mail your order to the church office and make checks out to St. Cornelius. Thank you for your support!
